Illness creates a complex moment, in which one must contemplate the reality of the body’s limitations. It is a grieving process, a web of emotion and contemplation. We are impermanent beings; we exist for only a brief moment on this earth—this is known, but is not fully internalized until the body itself is challenged. When this becomes a reality at a younger age, it changes the way one passes through life.
I seek to capture the transformative process that those challenged with illness, or physical limitations, must undergo—in all of its many stages. The inescapable sadness, the moments of extreme liberation and consciousness of life, and the eventual acceptance that leads us to become better acquainted with our existence, all play a part in this delicate process of maturing with a symbiote, or an injury. In creating a dialogue with those who understand this process of healing through illness, I have found healing coping with my own diagnosis, and inspiration in others who continue to on with their daily lives, despite the restraints their own bodies bind for them.
